- M.L.E Chapter 52: Real-World (Part2)
Feeling pleased with the outcome, I strolled through the castle of the Viscounty of Parma with light steps.
“Gasp!”
Naturally, when they saw me, the supposed enemy, striding through with an air of confidence, all the employees were taken aback.
If they had witnessed me appearing before them with a humbled expression, they would have no doubt sensed an awkward situation.
They all worried about their futures.
“This… this is it.”
I finally stopped in front of a massive door that appeared to lead to the Lord’s office.
What kind of entrance would a villain make in a situation like this?
The entrance I chose was explosive.
-Boom!
“Kwaaah!”
“Ugh!”
With a flick of my finger, the sturdy door exploded, and I stepped inside amidst the smoke.
Inside, I noticed the Viscount Parma and his family, whom I had seen at the Victory party.
Inside, numerous knights were clustered around the lord, but none dared to make a move.
Even though he was a viscount, as a Lord, Parma could be considered a regional autocrat. Just by selling off the decorations in this office, I could probably pocket nearly a billion.
I said with a satisfied expression, “I’ll give you 3 seconds. If you’re still holding a sword after that, I’ll consider you an enemy and eliminate you.”
I warned the tensed knights. Naturally, Arcia had her Force Sword drawn, and I acted as if I was about to swing my magic staff at any moment.
Knights were supposed to be loyal to their lord, but in this world, it was hard to find the loyalty as before. They were well aware that their lives were more valuable than anything else, so they quickly put down their swords in response to my warning.
Thanks to that, when the 3 seconds had passed, there was no knight holding a sword.
“How dare they!”
Parma, the Viscount, exclaimed excitedly, trying to urge the knights, but no one responded.
Of course.
Viscount Parmar’s power had already hit rock bottom.
If they rushed in now, it would be suicidal.
What the knights could do was simply not appear hostile to me, the victor.
“Oh, please don’t approach.”
As I approached Lord Parma, who was in such a state, step by step.
He clenched his butt, and I raised my magic staff as if I might swing it at any moment.
“Will you please sign this (surrender) document?”
“Grr…”
Viscount Parma bit his lip and his face turned bright red with anger.
But perhaps due to his experience in politics, he took a deep breath and calmed his emotions.
“What will you do to me… to my family?”
“Don’t worry. I won’t kill anyone except that trash, you call son. You’ll become a fallen noble, stripped of your wealth and title.”
“Heh.”
He appeared disheartened as I seated him at the table and handed him the paper and a pen.
“Or would you prefer death?”
“…”
Even if he didn’t want to, he had no choice.
This was not a matter of negotiation; it was a matter of life or death.
“Kuh.”
In the end, the middle-aged Viscount and his family had to shed tears and sign documents containing humiliating information, due to the mistake of one of their own.
In my own way, I am a very compassionate person.
However, that recognition does not apply to those who are defined as enemies.
Enemies or those who could become enemies in the future had to be thoroughly eliminated for life to be comfortable, as I had learned through past experiences.
***
In the war between the Marquis of Lawrence and the four Viscounties, the moment the Viscounty of Parma collapsed, the other wars were almost over.
As soon as the main force of Marquis Lawrence, who had taken over Viscounty of Parma, began to move, the other three Marquises had no choice but to evade separately.
“They say that the main force of Marquis Lawrence, who now occupies the Viscounty of Parma, is heading toward our territory!”
Lordship of the Viscounty of Doherty.
Viscount Doherty shouted as if struggling amidst the frequent explosions and vibrations.
“No, no! Marquis Lawrence and Count Klein may have already arrived! Even now, we’re barely holding on, but if those two, who have overwhelmed 40 Vanguards on their own, come in, our defense line will crumble in an instant!”
The detachment of Lawrence’s troops that attacked as soon as the war permit was granted had about 30% more firepower than Doherty’s forces.
The only thing that was holding them back was that Lawrence’s forces were a hastily assembled unit, so there was a lack of coordination, and they were barely holding on. If both sides were on equal footing, Doherty’s forces would have been defeated long ago.
However, with the situation as it was, the arrival of the main force in this situation was a disaster, and Viscount Doherty couldn’t help but panic.
“If I fall, it’ll be your turn next!”
[Damn it! We know!]
In a situation not much different from Viscount Doherty, Viscount Karma, and Viscount Ronier were forced to sigh deeply during their remote conference.
They felt like they were trapped in an inescapable swamp.
How were they going to end this unwinnable war?
[Maybe we should offer up our children?]
In a calm tone, Viscount Karma made a proposal to the other two, suggesting they hand over their sons and daughters, the ones who had caused this situation, to Adrian.
Viscount Doherty was caught in deep thought, but Viscount Ronier shook her head in refusal.
[It’s pointless. Marquis Lawrence took over Parma’s territory without even looking back, even though he was originally after the prince.]
“What do you mean?”
[From the beginning, his revenge was just an excuse for war!]
[…]
“…”
[It’s now clear that he created an army to fill his depleted coffers! Marquis Lawrence intends to pass on the receipts for military supplies to us!]
Viscountess Ronier, a woman who could be considered a model aristocrat, always exuded intelligence and composure.
When anger-filled accusations burst from her lips, Viscount Doherty and Viscount Karma were taken aback and had to shut their mouths.
Her administrative and political skills were superior to the other three.
But there was one thing in common.
She couldn’t pay much attention to her wicked child.
Who would have thought that families would perish because of their children?
This whole situation could not help but seem like a nightmare to her.
“Isn’t that even worse? What should we do about this…?”
As Viscount Doherty rolled his eyes in frustration, Viscount Ronier spoke with a cool expression.
[Since we can’t win through conventional warfare, we need to change our approach. We have to twist the situation and buy time.]
[Is there a way out of this hell?]
[First, we need to gather our forces.]
[Wait a moment! Are you saying we should leave our territories undefended?]
[In any case, if we face Marquis Lawrence in our territories, we will be defeated! This is the only option!]
[Ugh… Tell us your plan.]
They knew it was unavoidable, but for those who had only their territories, it was a harsh choice.
The pragmatic Ronier decisively laid out the plan.
[We will gather our forces and strike against Marquis Lawrence.]
“Ah…”
[We’ll take over Lawrence Marquis’ territory and threaten him. No matter how eccentric he is, he wouldn’t want to become the lord of ruins, would he?]
[I see. Lawrence Marquis’s territory should be empty right now.]
It was the best choice they could make.
It might be a somewhat ruthless method, but considering Adrian had already moved his forces before the start of the territorial war, his actions weren’t entirely honorable either.
So there was no need to discuss morality now.
[Since the war is taking place in our territories, the residents of Marquis Lawrence’s territory probably haven’t evacuated.]
[Does that mean we can take the residents hostage along with the city’s facilities?]
“That’s a strategy that should work! Impressive, Viscount Ronier!”
[It’s not a very flattering compliment. I can’t help but lament having to resort to such an undignified strategy.]
And so, the only opinion of Viscount Doherty, Viscount Ronier, and Viscount Karma converged as one.
