- M.L.E Chapter 66: Peaceful Feeling (Part 1)
– Magic Century, November 10, 2019.
The Bringum Empire declared war against the Prius Republic.
The conflict grew over Archduke Lucas’s fate, and eventually, it seemed that the Bringum Empire had drawn their swords.
Judging by the situation unfolding, it appeared that the Bringum Empire wasn’t entirely sure if the Fate in the Prius Republic’s possession was genuine, but they couldn’t afford to stand idle.
As a result, the Prius Republic, which had been gearing up for a showdown, went berserk in response to the Bringum Empire’s declaration of war, like an excited puppy.
[“To use the nation’s power for piracy, has the Emperor of the Bringum Empire finally lost his mind?”]
[“The Bringum Empire is a nation that has abandoned common sense. They don’t deserve to be called an empire.”]
The actions of the Bringum Empire were undoubtedly acts of piracy. After all, they started a war to take away what belonged to others.
Ironically, most countries, excluding those strongly influenced by the Prius Republic, did not support them. There were even countries that supported the Bringum Empire, for inappropriate reasons.
This could be seen as the price the Prius Republic’s government paid for its past actions.
“But what’s interesting is that those folks in the Prius Republic’s government are aware of how they are being treated.”
Apart from criticizing the Bringum Empire and causing an uproar, the Prius Republic was quietly preparing for war. This indicated that they had predicted the war. However, they raised their voices and highlighted the injustice of their situation, all to stir the emotions of the citizens.
“Huh?”
Among them, I checked the speech of ‘fake Lucky Encounter possessor Louis Fairmont,’ who was at the forefront of inciting the citizens.
As they say, this is a “request for war support donations.” In other words, they intend to extract funds from the citizens by packaging the required war expenses as an act of patriotism.
Some citizens who had suspicions questioned how the budget had been spent until now, and why they were collecting money from the citizens as soon as an emergency arose. However, these voices amounted to a minority.
The majority of the Republic’s citizens were more inflamed by their resentment toward the Bringum Empire, which was launching an invasion war, rather than questioning the use of the budget in this situation.
They burned the flags of the Bringum Empire during protests, carried out acts of terrorism against the Bringum Empire’s embassy, and boycotted Bringum Empire products, which symbolized wealth.
Furthermore, they willingly donated their belongings to the government, claiming they would protect the country. Witnessing this, I couldn’t help but nod my head.
“Yet the wealthy corporations and politicians are keeping quiet.”
Whenever I looked at the Prius Republic, memories of a past dictatorship came to mind. If the citizens united, they could easily overthrow the dictatorship, but instead, a country that had supported the dictator even in difficult times.
For that country to change, it seemed that enlightenment among the citizens was essential.
“For the Revolutionary Army, this is an unparalleled opportunity. No matter how many Aura masters and Archmages they have, there’s no hope if they confront the government head-on.”
Honestly, being from South Korea, I hoped that the Prius Republic, which advocated for a democratic society, would do well.
For a democratic republic to be ridiculed by feudal states, it was inconceivable if you thought about it from an Earth perspective.
“Lord, how do you think the direction of the war will go?”
As I hastily gathered information through online diaries (SNS) in response to the Bringum Empire’s declaration of war, I suddenly realized that this place was the Crown Prince’s Palace.
When I looked away from my terminal, I saw the Crown Prince, Acres, Lady Otis, and Arcia all looking at me.
βI guess the odds of winning are about 6:4?β
“Of course, 6 is for the Bringum Empire.”
“That’s right.”
“You didn’t seem to like the Prius Republic, but your evaluation of them is surprisingly favorable?”
The Bringum Empire, the Elysia Federation, the Prius Republic, and the Kroisen Empire. These four nations are considered the Four Great Empires of Rondel, with the Bringum Empire standing out among them.
It was a country that could wage war against the other three empires on its own. The military power gap between the Bringum Empire and the Prius Republic was nearly fivefold, so my expectations were beyond common sense.
However, the reason for making this judgment was simple.
“To invade the Prius Republic, the Bringum Empire would have to cross the ocean and face the challenges of a closed terrain.”
“In the end, the defensive position is more advantageous?”
“Yes, and the Prius Republic, the only country on the Tetatron Continent, can mobilize all its forces for defense, but the Bringum Empire cannot.”
The Prius Republic is the only country on the Tetatron Continent. In simple terms, it’s a country like Australia, occupying a whole continent by itself.
Furthermore, the Republic had relatively good relations with the adjacent countries of the Triton Continent.
Carelessness could lead to the formation of a war dynamic between the Bringum Empire vs. the Tetatron Continent and the Triton Continent.
“It’s quite terrifying to think that you might have to deal with two continents. But even so, to think that the Bringum Empire has the advantage…”
“That’s because it’s the Bringum Empire.”
No other reason was needed. Even though the terrain favored them, and even though the Bringum Empire had to conduct long-distance expeditions, there was no way their win rate could be lower than the Prius Republic’s.
After all, their opponent wasn’t just anyone; it was the Bringum Empire.
“And direct military support from countries on the Triton continent is unlikely to be feasible.”
“Of course, openly opposing the Bringum Empire would be a crazy move to anyone’s eyes. They’ll probably provide support from behind in various ways. Of course, we can’t ignore that either.”
For now, the Kingdom of Reinhart had nothing it could do in this war.
If possible, I hope the war can progress without major casualties and eventually end with the Bringum Empire judging the regime of the Prius Republic.
As a bonus, the Revolutionary Army, which has gained momentum this time, will have a chance to seize the current regime.
“Why? Do you have something to say?”
However, there was someone watching me closely while I was conversing with the Crown Prince, and that person was none other than Earl Acres.
“Does Lord Lawrence know about this and made such a choice…?”
It seems that these nobles are misunderstanding something. They suspect that I supported the Revolutionary Army because I knew about this situation in advance.
