- M.L.E Chapter 70: Saintess Contest (Part 1)
Engaging in close combat against a Master-level Vanguard in the game is undeniably intense.
Typically, one could easily evade a Vanguard’s attacks with precise angle adjustments, even with a 5-circle defense barrier.
However, the Master’s Aura Blade required unleashing at least a 6-circle defense barrier to have a chance at repelling it.
The problem is that circle 6 magic requires casting even briefly, making it difficult to defend in time.
So, instead of relying on defensive magic, I opted to evade attacks through offensive maneuvers.
-Whoong!
-Kwaaang!
The Aura Blade thrusting at a fearsome speed.
However, the Aura Blade aimed at my neck failed to reach me and swung off in the wrong direction.
“Feeling tipsy?”
“Yes!”
The pinpoint-targeted Explosion magic deflected Felix’s wrist, altering the attack direction.
It might seem absurd that a 6-circle Explosion magic, comparable to a tank missile, was employed for a mere wrist strike, but there was no other option.
Vanguards were not mere armored humans but rather beings akin to futuristic killing machines.
-Pang!
Following that, Wind Pressure magic erupted behind him, disrupting his balance.
Felix, looking bewildered, approached me by about three steps, and taking advantage of that, I deftly sidestepped, lifting my foot. The proud Aura master, with unwavering determination, fell unceremoniously to the ground.
-Thud.
Never letting his guard down, his will to fight with full power clashed with an unexpected and humiliating outcome.
His face, reddening as if it could burst at any moment, rose leveraging the elasticity of his body. In a surprise move, he extended his sword.
-Swish!
“Ugh-cha.”
Unfortunately, I had already seen through that move.
As I tilted my head, the crescent-shaped Aura blade whizzed past my forehead like a brush.
-Swish!
No matter how much I buff myself with magic, I can’t beat an Aura master in strength and speed.
But there were precisely two things.
Firstly, I had an advantage over Felix: the ‘real-world sensation’ shared in the game and the ‘combat experience’ gained by facing millions of monsters in actual battles and honing my ‘kinetic vision’ through repeated encounters.
-Kwaaang!
As the sharp sword thrust towards me again, I deflected it with magic, altering its path.
However, this time, as if anticipating it, Felix used the recoil to target my shoulder like a serpent.
It was a good attempt.
However, I used Explosion magic to strike his Achilles’ heel, breaking his stance.
As a result, His sword sliced through empty air.
“Ugh-dug.”
It might be frustrating.
Unlike swordsmanship, where the attack path is determined through the shoulder, arm, and wrist connected to the shoulder, magic can be unleashed anywhere without constraints.
Moreover, by using Explosion spell to not only deflect his attack but also to break his balance, I made it difficult for him to move freely. This meant he couldn’t stick to his own swordsmanship or combat style.
-Kwaaang!
“Coward!”
“Why? Is it unfair for a magician to engage in close combat?”
Thinking that it wouldn’t be good to continue like this, Felix launched a powerful attack and increased his speed a little. However, as the precision declined, vulnerabilities appeared here and there.
As the three-strike combo composed of stabbing, a downward slash from the upper right, and an upward slash from the lower left broke, his exposed side became glaringly apparent before my eyes.
“Kuk!”
Ordinary magicians might take advantage of this opening to create distance, but instead, I took a step closer to him and raised my magic staff to strike his chin.
The laser cannon magic of the 6th circle, simultaneously cast, targeted his chin along with the magic staff.
“Sh!t!”
Perhaps due to the lesson learned in the first round of the duel where he fainted from the laser cannon, he desperately retreated even in a state of imbalance.
However, that choice was a blunder.
It seemed he forgot he was in close combat; after all, I am a magician. Magicians are naturally better at ranged combat than melee.
“This is the perfect distance for using 7th circle magic.”
His exaggerated evasive movement turned him into a target.
I gifted him a high-level magic toward that target.
‘Aqua Blast.’
Thanks to that, Felix found himself receiving a grand magic spell in an awkward posture.
-Kuwoong!
Nevertheless, he truly is an Aura master.
Even in an uncomfortable position, he managed to successfully deflect the magic.
Aqua Blast is a high-pressure grand magic that penetrates everything in its path. However, due to the head-on collision with his Aura blade, its power weakened, and it couldn’t pierce through the force armor’s defense.
“How long do you think these tricks will work!”
Did he believe he had blocked my decisive blow?
Where did the discomfort go? Felix shouted triumphantly.
He raised the corners of his mouth and straightened his posture, but…
“Huh?”
It didn’t take long for the smile to disappear from his face.
My magic staff, appearing through the stream of water that covered the field of view, approached his nose.
Felix opened his eyes wide.
“Light.”
And the solar beam, known as the ‘eye-blinding attack,’ emerged without fail in such a scene.
“Kkuaak!”
The force armor did not defend against the simple manifestation magic of Light, and the unexpected flash grenade attack was inevitable even for an Aura master.
Felix grimaced in pain, squinting his eyes.
“Y-You, you son of a b****!”
But isn’t he in the middle of a battle right now?
What’s the point of closing your eyes during a battle?
“It means ‘kill me.'”
Approaching his vulnerable abdomen with the magic staff, I unleashed my 18th attack, Flame Blast, at point-blank range.
A massive flame beam, imbued with the power of destruction, engulfed Felix like a giant serpent with an open mouth.
“Kkeuk!”
-Kwaaaah!
Following the familiar scream heard multiple times today, a deafening explosion shook the entire arena.
I anxiously examined Felix’s condition, looking for signs of life or death.
Although I didn’t unleash a 10-shot barrage of 7-circle magic like in the second round, taking 7-circle magic at “point-blank range” in a “more reinforced form” and in a “vulnerable state” was likely impactful.
“Oh, the Aura master Vanguard equipment is indeed sturdy.”
