- RMLP Chapter 271: Choosing a Faction (Part 2)
Of course, Ryu Min already knew which faction the angel had described as “overwhelmingly stronger.”
‘It’s the Holy Empire, obviously.’
Even if the five kingdoms had united, they couldn’t hold a candle to the Holy Empire.
Its military strength, equipment quality, financial resources, and supplies were far superior.
Thus, survival dictated that aligning with the Holy Empire was the safest bet.
‘At least, that’s what I thought—before I regressed.’
Choosing the Holy Empire would guarantee victory, but there was a problem: the difficulty would be too easy.
‘If the Holy Empire wins, the rewards are minimal. Practically nonexistent.’
On the other hand, if the Kingdom Alliance won, the rewards would be enormous.
Players would receive an immense amount of experience points as well as condensed aether capable of creating god-tier equipment.
High risk, high reward.
‘It was only later that I realized: without the experience rewards from the Kingdom Alliance’s victory, it’s impossible to reach max level by Round 20.’
Ryu Min had already hit max level early thanks to experience runes and other rewards, but for others, it would be impossible without the Alliance’s victory rewards.
‘The skills you can learn at max level are critical.’
Thus, choosing the Holy Empire was essentially shooting yourself in the foot.
It was the equivalent of throwing away immense rewards.
‘That’s why I’m choosing option 1.’
[Player “Black Scythe” has joined the “Kingdom Alliance.”]
[You have gained the status of a commander within the Kingdom Alliance.]
[You will now be transported to the command tent.]
As a bright light obscured his vision, Ryu Min found himself inside a tent-like structure—the interior of a command tent.
There, familiar faces awaited him.
“Black Scythe, you’re here?”
“Seo Arin.”
It wasn’t just Seo Arin.
Min Juri, Christine, Jo Yong-ho, Victor, Heo Tae-seok, Russell—
All of the Death Church members were gathered in the tent.
‘No, it’s too soon to say “all.”’
Ryu Min had advised them beforehand to choose the Kingdom Alliance.
But it was too early to assume everyone had followed his advice.
There was always the possibility of betrayal.
‘Though I doubt anyone would dare.’
Ryu Min had explained the advantages of choosing the Kingdom Alliance.
While defeating the Holy Empire would be tough, the rewards for victory would be unparalleled.
Still, there were always fools who didn’t listen.
[The faction selection period has ended.]
[Faction Selection Results:]
└ Holy Empire: 2 players
└ Kingdom Alliance: 286 players
‘So there were two idiots who chose the Holy Empire after all.’
It seemed they assumed the Holy Empire’s overwhelming strength would guarantee victory, but they were mistaken.
Ryu Min never participated in losing battles.
That was precisely why the other Death Church members trusted him and followed his lead.
“Two players chose the Holy Empire?”
“Who in the world went over to their side?”
“Didn’t Black Scythe tell us to choose the Kingdom Alliance?”
“Those idiots must have a death wish.”
As the players murmured amongst themselves and exchanged glances, Ryu Min also swept his gaze around the tent.
He wanted to ensure that no one important had defected to the Holy Empire.
‘Good, Alex and Dorothy are both here.’
The key members were all present, which meant that the two who had chosen the Holy Empire were likely insignificant.
‘Well, it can’t be helped. We’ll just have to deal with those two when the time comes.’
In any case, the real fighting wouldn’t be done by the players themselves.
It was up to the soldiers from the otherworldly kingdoms to clash with one another, while the players, as commanders, would focus solely on strategy.
[As commanders, players now have the authority to manage troops.]
[You can control the resources, supplies, troop movements, facilities, and battle orders of the five allied kingdoms.]
[However, commanding is restricted to players inside the faction’s command tent.]
[You may leave the command tent, but direct participation in battles is forbidden.]
[Some areas may be inaccessible.]
[For more information on how to command, consult the battle status board provided in the tent.]
[Lead the Kingdom Alliance to victory. Good luck.]
After reading the message, the players turned their attention to the battle status board that had been set up in the middle of the tent.
The board displayed a map of the battlefield, with various markers representing troop positions.
Blue markers represented the Allied forces, while red markers denoted the Holy Empire’s troops.
“Wait a second…”
“Are we… seeing this correctly?”
“Is the red supposed to be the enemy and the blue us?”
“Holy crap…”
The players’ jaws collectively dropped as they processed what they were seeing.
The red markers vastly outnumbered the blue.
The disparity was staggering. Anyone could tell at a glance that the Allied forces were in a hopelessly disadvantaged position.
“The five allied kingdoms are this outnumbered?”
“Looks like the angel wasn’t joking when they said that one side is overwhelmingly strong.”
“Black Scythe, what do we do now?”
“This is impossible—there are just too many of them.”
The players turned to Ryu Min with anxious faces, hoping for some kind of solution.
But instead of looking concerned, Ryu Min simply smiled.
‘If I didn’t have a plan, I wouldn’t have picked the Kingdom Alliance in the first place.’
“Don’t worry. Trust me.”
“Trust you? But how can we overcome such overwhelming numbers with just strategy?”
“There’s no need for strategy.”
“Huh?”
The players blinked in confusion at Ryu Min’s unexpected response.
“No strategy? But isn’t this round all about strategy and tactics?”
Ryu Min’s smile deepened.
‘Strategy and tactics? Those are for poor people.’
The truth was, he didn’t need elaborate plans or cunning maneuvers.
Because in this round, there was one resource that could single-handedly change the course of the war.
‘If you can’t beat them with numbers, you beat them with money.’
As a commander, players could use their gold to recruit additional troops, upgrade equipment, and bolster defenses.
With enough gold, even an insurmountable disadvantage could be overturned.
‘I have nearly 100 billion gold. Let’s crush them with money.’
With a smirk, he prepared for what was to come.
