- LLD Chapter 67: Infinite vs. Infinite (1) (Part 1)
Kai’s body froze stiff as if he’d turned to stone.
A sudden, jarring sensation—like the Aura coursing through his body had been abruptly shut off.
‘This is…’
Dragon Fear.
The overwhelming pressure of the strongest being, the one who reigns above all—a dragon.
It was the kind of presence one would only feel when face-to-face with the real thing.
And yet, the person standing before Kai wasn’t a dragon—it was a human.
Adrian.
What he saw was unmistakably human in form and appearance, yet Kai saw a dragon in Adrian.
…That’s when it began.
The infernal blaze that once annihilated an entire monster legion in an instant—
It was being unleashed again, within the Infinite Labyrinth.
A berserk dragon, pushed to its limits.
And at last—
It met its dreadful liberation.
KRAAAAAAAAAA—!!!
In an instant, searing heat exploded outward—
Crimson flames igniting and consuming every last chunk of flesh in sight.
Pitch-black darkness scattered like dust—
The slabs of flesh covering the walls and floor began to sizzle and burn away in seconds.
Muscle tissue soaked in slime and blood boiled and burst apart.
And Kai—
Having once taken that infernal blaze head-on—
<GRAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!>
—knew better than anyone how excruciating it was.
As the entire labyrinth seemed to scream in choking agony,
The burning slabs of meat convulsed in pain, pulsing and writhing like beating hearts.
Flesh melted into sticky ash.
The vaporized liquid hung in the air like a milky fog.
Scattered flames spread rapidly,
Still burning in scattered pockets across the maze—
<GYAAAAH!! AAAAAAAARGH!!>
And once again, Avarus was plunged into the unbearable agony of immolation.
The fleshy walls of the maze desperately tried to contain the spread, shifting quickly to seal the flames in.
But the fire had already burrowed deep—
Torching every exposed nerve and blood vessel of the maze.
<S-STOPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!>
Endless, tormented screams rang out.
The stench of burning protein.
Steam and smoke twisted through the air in a scene of pure horror.
And amid it all—
Laid flat like someone who had just crawled out of hell’s furnace—was Adrian, charred to a crisp.
Most disturbingly, both arms were missing entirely.
His shoulders were sunken in as if scorched straight off, leaving a grotesque sight behind.
Anyone could see—
He didn’t look remotely alive.
A human shouldn’t have been able to survive that.
And yet—
“Hey, Kai.”
A faint voice reached him.
Kai turned his eyes back to Adrian.
And—
He saw it.
“Cut off a piece of that meat and shove it in my mouth, will you?”
…The corpse was talking.
A corpse with no arms, flailing wildly.
It was as bizarre as it was grotesque.
Still, Kai didn’t faint.
It was absurd, truly—
But he did as Adrian asked and sliced a suitable piece of flesh from the floor.
Avarus showed no reaction.
Compared to the intense agony of the burning, this little flesh wound was nothing.
Squelch.
Kai chopped the severed flesh into bite-sized pieces and brought one to Adrian’s mouth—
Chomp.
Like a baby bird snatching up a worm, Adrian bit into it.
Crunch, munch.
He devoured it eagerly—the flesh vanishing in an instant.
Soon, his arms began to regenerate,
And from there, he handled the rest himself.
Adrian raised his newly restored claws,
And with practiced motions, tore off chunks of roasted meat and stuffed them into his mouth.
Crunch. Munch.
“Cooking it makes it taste pretty decent, actually.”
And so—
Day 1 in the Infinite Labyrinth came to an end.
Day 2 of being trapped in the Infinite Labyrinth.
With time perception distorted, Kai wasn’t sure if it was truly Day 2—
But it felt like it.
And just like the day before, Adrian and Avarus were at it again.
On Day 1, Avarus had been briefly overwhelmed by Adrian’s flames.
But he didn’t stay on the back foot for long.
He used the labyrinth itself to fight back, turning the battle into a brutal slugfest.
<YOU BASTARD!!!>
Avarus screamed in rage as he manipulated the fleshy maze.
Tentacles mutated into increasingly complex shapes, moving as Avarus willed.
Laced with nails and fangs,
They twisted together and lashed out like monsters’ mouths, lunging at Adrian.
But—
“You think I can’t eat that too?”
Adrian didn’t hesitate.
He ate them all.
His jaws and teeth tore through muscle and tissue, devouring them whole.
Each bite restored his injuries—
And he kept fighting, relentless.
Avarus too regenerated—his torn tentacles reforming, his shredded tissue reassembling—
But—
<AAAAAARGH!!>
The pain that came with it was just as terrible.
Day 7 of being trapped in the Infinite Labyrinth.
It had been a week inside this living, fleshy prison.
<GRAAAAAAAAGH!!!>
As usual, the day began with Avarus’s scream.
Or more accurately, there hadn’t been a single moment in the past seven days without screaming.
And today—Adrian once again unleashed the infernal blaze.
Perhaps exhausted from the week-long brawl,
Avarus left an opening.
Adrian didn’t miss it.
And so, flames bloomed in every direction.
<GAAAAH—! AAAAAAAAAARGH─!!>
Avarus’s agonized cries echoed through the entire labyrinth.
Adrian’s arms were ablaze, flailing wildly.
Tentacles reached out to attack the defenseless man—
Slash!
Kai stepped in, slicing through them all.
Then, like a server presenting a meal, he fed the severed pieces straight into Adrian’s mouth.
Once again, Adrian snapped them up like a baby bird.
Crunch. Munch.
Seven days of nonstop eating—and he still wasn’t sick of it?
The flesh vanished in seconds.
Watching this unfold…
“That good?”
“You want some?”
“Not exactly, just… curious.”
“Then try it.”
Munch. Munch.
“…This one’s kinda nasty. But the roasted bits are tolerable.”
Adrian pointed to a sizzling patch of flesh, bubbling noisily.
No matter how Kai looked at it—
It didn’t look remotely edible.
And yet, he couldn’t suppress his growing curiosity.
Plus, even with Aura keeping him going,
Seven days without food had left him starving.
Eventually, hunger and curiosity won out.
Kai sliced off a bit of meat.
Carefully, he placed it in his mouth and chewed—
“Uuuurgh—!”
No exaggeration—it tasted like moldy garbage.
And the juices that burst in his mouth?
It was like a broth brewed from a swamp full of rotting corpses.
“BLEAARRGH—!”
…And for the first time, Kai truly respected Adrian.
