The Master of Language - T.M.L Chapter 6 (Part 2):
Master Abana gradually calmed down, but her pupils were still trembling.
I walked back to the lake.
And placed both hands on the water’s surface.
As expected, the girl under the water kept tickling my hand.
[Hello?]
The moment I heard that voice, I felt my heart sink, but I soon shook my head and regained my senses.
So this is what it means to communicate with the mind.
I didn’t react to her at all and concentrated as much as I could.
Move the water.
Move the water!
Suddenly, water burst out from both my hands as if the lake was exploding, splashing water in all directions.
Splash-!
“……”
“……”
“……”
Everyone was soaked as if caught in a sudden shower.
I gently removed my hands from the water’s surface and smiled slightly.
“Well, it didn’t work out. Haha.”
* * *
Splash.
“Again.”
Splash.
“Again.”
Splash.
“A-Again… Ugh.”
The world spun before my eyes.
I raised my hand to touch the bridge of my nose.
As expected, I felt warm blood.
I stretched both hands behind me to use as pillars to lean on.
“Phew. It might work once out of about a hundred tries.”
And I lifted my head towards the sky to prevent the nosebleed from dripping…
“Oh, Psyche?”
Psyche was looking down at me with her arms crossed, clearly angry.
“I couldn’t sleep properly all night because of you.”
“Huh?”
“It was so noisy. I only dozed off.”
“Ahaha. Sorry. I’ll be more careful next time.”
“What’s there to be careful about? It’s time to get up now. Get up. Master wants you to go to the mountains to gather herbs.”
Come to think of it, I wouldn’t be able to see her face so clearly if it were still night.
I looked around and soon saw the sun rising over the eastern mountains.
“It’s morning already?”
“You didn’t know?”
“I was so absorbed in studying magic. But it’s strange. I’m not tired at all.”
Psyche narrowed her eyes and bluntly said,
“Clean up all that nosebleed before you try to show off like that.”
She turned around sharply and went back into the house.
I followed her.
There was no one inside the house, and the entrance opposite the lake side was open, as if Psyche had already gone outside.
On the table to one side, fruits and vegetables were placed.
I’m hungry.
I gathered as much of them as I could carry and went outside.
Psyche was waiting for me behind the house.
“How are you going to walk in the forest with your hands full like that?”
“Why? I can walk pretty well, you know.”
“You’re human. Do you think you can keep up without holding my hand?”
No matter how well I know how to walk in the forest, I’m not as good as an elf.
Then suddenly, I noticed the empty basket Psyche was holding.
“You can hold this for me. I can put them in that basket.”
“……”
“Come on, quickly.”
When I held out the fruits and vegetables, Psyche reluctantly put them into the empty basket.
Then she stretched out her hand.
“Hold tight.”
“……”
That white and delicate hand was like a living painting.
It felt like something not of this world had suddenly appeared.
“What are you staring at? It’s creepy.”
I cleared my throat.
“Sorry.”
I then grasped her hand.
“Ah!”
She was suddenly pulled towards me.
Psyche was incredibly light.
It felt like holding a small cat.
Normally, I would have put my arm around her shoulder, but since we weren’t that close, I awkwardly held her.
Psyche immediately stretched out her other hand to push me away.
Something’s flying towards my face.
Is she trying to slap me?
How much can it hurt coming from someone as light as her? I can easily take this much…
Pow-!
It was a punch.
This definitely isn’t normal.
“What’s wrong with you suddenly! Why did you pull me? What, did you really think I’m your companion or something?”
I tasted blood on the tip of my tongue.
“I didn’t pull you on purpose. I didn’t know you were so light.”
“What?”
“I was just trying to hold your hand. I only applied a little strength, but you were suddenly pulled towards me. This is just because of the simple difference in weight.”
As I explained the situation calmly and rationally, Psyche’s expression became puzzled.
She soon lowered her gaze and said,
“Really?”
She seemed to be feeling sorry, so it looked like she understood my position.
For someone with such a strong pride, she can at least acknowledge her mistakes.
“Do you think I would suddenly try to hug you for no reason?”
“I don’t know about you.”
“Why don’t you know?”
“Well… You’re kind of…”
“Kind of?”
“I don’t know.”
After saying that, she turned her body and strode forward. But since we were holding hands, she stumbled and came back.
That’s because even Master Abana, who is an adult, had struggled, so it was no surprise Psyche, who wasn’t fully grown, had trouble too.
Psyche frowned and said,
“If you do that one more time, I’ll let go of your hand and go alone.”
“I couldn’t keep up because you suddenly sped up. I promise I’ll follow properly. Just don’t change your speed or direction suddenly.”
Psyche glared at me.
No matter how much you look at me like that, it doesn’t make my words a lie.
She looked away and mumbled,
“Fine.”
She started moving again, much slower this time. Because of this, I was able to easily match her pace and enter the forest.
Her steps were more rugged than I thought, making it difficult to follow.
Now I realize how much Master Abana had been considerate before.
We passed through the dense forest and arrived at a hill.
Most of the surrounding plants were weeds that came up to the ankles, and there were only sparsely scattered trees, so there was no longer any need to follow Psyche’s guidance.
“Can I let go of your hand now?”
At those words, Psyche suddenly stopped. Then she abruptly threw my hand away.
“Then just let go, why are you asking? I was holding it only because you were holding on so tightly.”
“Okay, okay. Got it.”
My tone must have irritated her because her eyes flashed with anger.
Now I think I understand.
It’s her eyes.
Everything else is adorable, but her layered eyelids make her look enchanting.
Satisfied with having solved the secret of the coexistence of cuteness and maturity, I decided to leave it at that.
