Novel Info

Evan had never imagined that the Dark Witch’s method of finding the spell to open the Veil of Death would be to replay ancient magic.

It was like the Prior Incantato, but with an infinitely amplified range and intensity.

The Prior Incantato was an investigative charm commonly used by Aurors, forcing a wand to show an “echo” of the last spell it had performed. This was within the scope of regular spells; all Hogwarts students learned this spell in their seventh-year Charms class.

However, in unconventional wand lore, the Priori Incantatem had another triggering method: a mutated version!

When the spell from one wand came into deadlock with that of another wand sharing the same core, the effect would be activated. One wand would force the other to produce “echoes” of the most recent spells performed in reverse order. If one of these spells was the Killing Curse, then a ghostly “echo” of the murdered person could emerge from the killer’s wand.

This mutated Priori Incantatem was extremely rare, known to few wizards, and most might never see it in their lifetime. After all, twin wands were already quite rare, and for two such wands to be locked in direct confrontation was rarer still.

On the day Voldemort returned from the dead, Evan had once seen Harry’s wand react in exactly this way with Voldemort’s.

Voldemort had intended to kill Harry, but his wand went out of control, locking with Harry’s wand through a beam of magic. The power of the spells collided, forming a sphere of light. Subsequently, Harry’s wand forced Voldemort’s wand to replay the spells it had previously cast, and the ghostly “echoes” of those killed by Voldemort somehow reappeared.

Everyone who witnessed this was stunned; in fact, even Voldemort himself was probably terrified.

After that day, he never again dared to use his own wand against Harry, a limitation that severely reduced his personal magical strength.

Even after resolving to become an evil god, he had never abandoned the search for a more powerful wand.

From Harry’s earlier account, Evan knew that Voldemort had likely already found Grindelwald that very night. He would soon learn that the Elder Wand was in Dumbledore’s possession — even if Grindelwald told him nothing.

But these were obvious facts; no amount of concealment would change anything.

Dumbledore was far too famous; all this information was printed on Chocolate Frog Cards: Albus Dumbledore, Considered by many to be the greatest wizard of modern times, Dumbledore is particularly famous for his defeat of the Dark wizard Grindelwald in 1945…

Evan was not sure if Voldemort had a habit of collecting Chocolate Frog Cards, nor how many he had, but he certainly knew this fact, just as all wizards knew that Dumbledore was the headmaster of Hogwarts.

At this moment, the spell the Dark Witch was casting had an effect very similar to the Priori Incantatem, but it was definitely not a regular version. She was using the power of evil gods; the Priori Incantatem had mutated, becoming more powerful and uncontrollable. No one could guarantee what impact this recreated magic would have on reality; the evil god beyond the Veil of Death might actually descend into the world in this way.

Or worse, the power of the evil gods had begun to disrupt time, even shattering space itself.

Once the magic of yesteryear was complete, the evil within the Veil of Death would be unleashed, and the entire region might spiral completely out of control.

This place would detach from reality, becoming a zone jointly shaped by the world of Earth and the realm within the Veil of Death.

Evan pondered these thoughts as he ran with all his might towards the central tower of the castle.

The Dark Witch’s magic had begun, and there was no way to stop it now.

If the Ravenclaw family’s library truly preserved some powerful magic, it might be the only thing that could halt this entire situation.

Evan had never understood why the Ravenclaw family’s attempt to open the Veil of Death a thousand years ago had failed.

If the Veil of Death had truly been opened back then, then they should have succeeded; the evil within should have been unleashed. Yet every clue they had uncovered so far pointed to the opposite: the Ravenclaw family’s wizards had not succeeded. They had failed!

And they had paid the price. Every wizard within the entire territory had been killed, and the once-mighty Ravenclaw family had been completely wiped off the stage of history. It sounded like a more powerful spell had intervened and stopped the Dark magic that opened the Veil of Death. If that were the case, then who was the wizard who had cast that more powerful spell?!

In an age when the Four Founders of Hogwarts were no longer present, which wizard could still have wielded such overwhelming power?!

Evan kept recalling the magical history of that era: the goblin and giant rebellions, the intensifying witch hunts, the numerous Muggle women falsely accused of witchcraft and executed, the encroachment of the Church’s authority, and the eventual end of centuries-long conflict between wizards and the Church.

There had been many famous wizards, but none who seemed powerful enough…

Then, all at once, a thought struck him.

Could it have been young Master Dalian? The power of an Obscurial was terrifying beyond measure.

Just then, he heard a strange melody, like the monotonous tune of a music box. The music came from the central tower ahead, and Evan saw a white ghostly figure flash past one of the tower’s narrow windows.

“Who’s there?!” He hadn’t seen it clearly.

After all, once the Dark Witch’s magic had taken effect, all the ghosts in the castle had vanished along with the blue light.

A ghost appearing now was too suspicious.

Evan followed the ghost into the central tower. The tower was huge and incredibly chaotic inside, with staircases arranged haphazardly upwards and many passages leading to unknown destinations.

Evan moved through the abandoned tower, climbing up and down, only to find himself back at the entrance after a full circuit.

“Point Me!” he shouted, his wand spinning rapidly, unable to determine which direction Evan should go.

The magical aura within the tower was completely chaotic, its pathways a labyrinthine maze.

“What an unpleasant magical building.” Evan had already given up hope on the wizards’ architectural talent and aesthetic taste. He had already thought Hogwarts Castle was chaotic enough, but this place was a thousand times more chaotic.

He had given up searching for the ghost he’d seen earlier; this wasn’t the time for hide-and-seek.

As for the Ravenclaw family’s library…

“Hmm, the Ravenclaws had a habit of hiding their treasures in high places. There’s a very good chance the library is at the top of the tower,” Evan reasoned. He decided he ought to take a simpler way up.

It wasn’t difficult; in fact, it seemed like something he should have done long ago…
