Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 127 (Part 2):
Everyone hesitated to make a decision. In such moments, someone needs to step up. Someone who can overcome this fear and lead the way.
“I have an idea.”
It was Helmut!
“Let’s stay here tonight and leave early in the morning. Considering there might be traps along the way, that might be the better option.”
“We can manage without food, but what about water? Will that be okay?”
“We have food. Let’s grill the mushrooms he picked.”
The mushrooms were scarce, barely enough for each of them to have one. But at this moment, it was all they had to eat. It was unlikely that the mushrooms had been poisoned.
“Good thing you picked them.”
Andro muttered. Helmut came up with a solution.
“I’ll go check the path we came from. There’s a stream nearby. I’ll fetch water from there. The flowing water shouldn’t be poisoned. Stay together and tidy up here. If something happens, shout, and don’t let your guard down.”
Helmut glanced at the team members. Asuka had good instincts. Even Fasho would have trouble approaching him at close range. If attacked, Asuka would respond immediately.
If they stuck together, they would be able to face the assassin until Helmut returned.
Helmut picked up two water containers. Enough to quench their thirst.
Suddenly, Dino asked.
“But Helmut, are you confident you can handle the assassin alone?”
“That’s why the assassin will target you guys. To distract me.”
“So, you’re saying you have the skills of a first-rank mercenary?”
“Yes.”
Helmut was nonchalant. The team members looked at each other upon hearing this stark truth.
Most would doubt such confidence as arrogance, but this was Helmut. He had never lied before.
“Then, you could even defeat Instructor Ethan?”
“I’ve never fought him, so I don’t know.”
He realized he was superior when facing the assassin.
The assassin had declared hunting Helmut, but it was akin to hunting a beast that could turn and rip your throat at any moment. It was a life-threatening hunt.
However, he didn’t feel the same intensity from Ethan Kudrow. He sensed he was superior to the assassin.
“Then.”
Helmut turned his back.
Crying is not allowed by the pride of a swordsman. They tidied up the messy campsite with stern faces.
Staying within three steps of each other, they each did their part.
Helmut was surprised by their initiative. Finn would have whined and clung to Helmut’s legs in this situation. Despite being of similar age, these individuals were different.
‘They’re quite useful.’
As Helmut walked along the path, he decided he should save them. It might be more challenging, but it didn’t matter.
After all, he was going to win.
About 20 minutes later, Helmut reached the stream. He hurried on the return trip but took his time going there, checking for any issues with the path.
There were no collapsed bridges or trees cut down to block the way. There wouldn’t be any significant obstacles returning.
The stream was quiet in the fading light. Helmut cleaned the water bottle and scooped up the water. It seemed fine when he smelled it.
Suddenly, a rustling sound came from the opposite bank. Helmut crouched and held his breath.
It was a rabbit. Its ears twitched as it hopped towards the water. In a different context, it might have been considered cute, but Helmut saw it as food that walked right up to him.
Not bad luck all day, right? The rabbit wouldn’t be poisoned.
‘The bow…’
He had it on his back, but he had no arrows.
Setting down the water bottles, Helmut felt for his bow. His hand brushed against a fallen twig. It was thin but long enough for the bow.
Helmut fitted the twig to the bowstring.
With a sharp twang, the makeshift arrow pierced the rabbit’s neck.
The rabbit died instantly, unaware of its fate.
‘Simple.’
With the bow slung back and carrying the water and rabbit, Helmut thought they’d be pleased with his return.
However, the scene at the campsite was not what he expected.
“What the hell is this!”
“You, what the hell are you doing, idiot! Are you crazy? You’re going to follow him! You need to understand the subject.”
James sat on the ground, clutching one side of his face, while Asuka stood arms crossed, glaring at him. Andro looked on with a stern expression.
One person was missing. Helmut quickly grasped the situation.
“Di, Dino was taken, and you just stay still! Andro, you!”
Andro shook his head.
“If we had chased after him, you might have been captured too. Then we’d be truly out of options.”
Helmut then realized he had been moving silently so he made a noise. The three turned to him.
“Helmut!”
“What happened? How was Dino taken?”
Had they forgotten his instruction to stick together so soon? Helmut’s gaze sharpened.
Asuka explained grudgingly.
“Well, Dino suddenly needed to pee. He said he’d go just ahead to do it. It was really just for a moment.”
Dino couldn’t wait for Helmut’s return to relieve himself and decided to step out to a tree nearby.
It was a short distance, hardly ten steps. It felt awkward to follow someone just to watch them pee.
But the moment Dino finished and was fixing his trousers, two long hands descended from above like lightning, snatching him away as a spider captures its prey. A terrifying sight.
Everyone was shocked, their eyes wide open.
