Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 138 (Part 1):
As Helmut neared the training ground, he happened upon her. It was a true coincidence. Remembering Alea’s cautionary warning, Helmut flinched.
“Hello.”
Charlotte greeted him with a puzzled look. Being at the training ground from dawn showed her dedication. Not only did she possess remarkable talent, but she also did not neglect to put in the effort. They shared not only physical resemblances but also many similarities in character.
“…Did you come for training?”
“Yes, yes! I’ll be on my way now.”
Charlotte bowed her head slightly and then hurried off as if being chased. Helmut furrowed his brows. She acted as if she had committed a crime. Why?
‘At the Greta Academy, there are…’
Rules that must neither be asked nor spoken. Helmut recalled Charlotte’s reaction when he asked if she knew ‘Margret Irene.’
“I, I don’t know. Senior, asking that is against the academy rules…”
She looked around in panic. Charlotte wasn’t good at lying. That’s why Helmut was certain. She had a very close relationship with the woman named in that question.
A flood of questions clogged his throat. Is she alive? Where is she? How is she living? Is she healthy? Does she… remember him? However, this torrent was blocked by reason. The presence of a dark seed held his tongue.
“Right.”
The only response from Helmut was a short one.
“Forget I asked. It’s nothing.”
He found the answer quicker than expected. Charlotte was the answer. Helmut reviewed what he knew about Charlotte.
Likely a child of a powerful noble family. Definitely a noble. If she maintains her noble status, so would her parents.
Then they must still be alive. He had thought finding them would be as difficult and taxing as leaving the Forest of Roots, almost unconsciously putting it off for the future.
But faced with a clue that fell so easily into his lap, Helmut didn’t know what to do.
‘Blood relatives…’
They had lived their lives separately. His only memories were from infancy. Even the voice that called his name was now vague. Would his mother, presumed dead, welcome her returned child? Or not?
‘If a child with a dark seed returned, she might not be pleased.’
The temple knew Margret Irene had borne a child with a seed of darkness. Suddenly having a son would raise suspicions.
His family was likely not just his mother. Helmut only remembered her, but it was improbable she had him by herself.
Father, siblings, and relatives. Being nobility, there would surely be a few blood-related members.
‘I can’t put them in danger.’
Even a fellow student from the swordsmanship department, merely passed by, couldn’t be left to die because of him. He didn’t want his arrival to bring them misfortune.
Helmut suddenly realized. The reason he couldn’t ignore Dino, Andro, and James was because of the situations they were in.
It was similar to when baby Helmut was thrown into the Forest of Roots. Innocent, yet facing death.
Deep down, Helmut found this unjust. Especially since they were in danger because of him, he couldn’t just look away.
The cause of Helmut being thrown into the forest was the seed of darkness and the temple. Helmut knew that going back wouldn’t change anything.
But the future could be different. Here, he could think, judge, and fight. Having a dark seed wasn’t an insurmountable reality.
Helmut had survived the Forest of Roots, emerged from it, and now stood on the soil of the human world. As the Archmage Antiol had said, someday he would even control this power.
But that was the future. The current him wasn’t strong enough to be safe.
There’s never a perfectly safe moment. But was now the time to risk revealing his identity?
Helmut pondered but soon found his answer.
‘Not yet.’
He wasn’t ready to confront the temple yet. He wouldn’t miss the right opportunity, but it was too soon for him to seek it out.
And currently, he was facing final exams.
