Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 171 (Part 1):
The Start of the Second Semester
Helmut returned to Baden with only three days left until the start of school.
The demonic beast subjugation had taken longer than expected. Moreover, due to White’s condition, they couldn’t march as quickly as before.
‘Returning to my original appearance after such a long time feels unfamiliar.’
Helmut had removed his disguise once he left the borders of Basor, finding his reflection in the mirror somewhat strange.
The first place he headed to in Baden was the Kudrow Mansion.
Ethan Kudrow breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing from Helmut about what had happened in Basor.
“Phew, it seems Basor went through a lot. It’s fortunate that the truth has come to light now.”
“The truth won’t be revealed. Because…”
Helmut mentioned the Second Prince’s opinion. Though he had decided to keep it to himself, he couldn’t keep it a secret from Ethan Kudrow. Ethan was aware that Helmut was Hyde. Thus, these were Helmut’s words.
“I can’t fully accept it, but if Darien’s descendant has decided to keep quiet, I have nothing to say.”
Ethan Kudrow readily agreed to keep silent as well. If Luke Yeager wishes it, then he had no more to say.
“To think that the temple would go as far as to do such a thing. Acting recklessly under the name of Lumen. They did not view our Baden, abundant with mages and knights, favorably either.”
It seemed Ethan Kudrow’s impression of the temple had worsened. This was a positive development for Helmut.
“To win the tournament, you’ve done a great deed. It’s a pity that Greta Academy can’t officially announce the winner of the Basor tournament.”
“It wasn’t officially announced, anyway.”
It was merely announced in a small notice that the tournament prize money was awarded to Hyde for his contributions in beast subjugation.
Effectively, there was no winner of this year’s Basor tournament since the final match was not held.
The tournament was a significant event in Basor, but the people of Basor could no longer pay it any mind.
Soon, with Luke Yeager’s identity revealed and the descendant of the Sword Saint making a commotion, it would be the talk of Basor.
“Having a descendant of Darien, that’s also surprising. How was he?”
“He resembled Darien. An outstanding swordsman.”
“Yeah, that’s good to hear…”
Ethan Kudrow pressed his eyes shut, reminiscing about Darien Deferth who had saved him long ago, as if trying to recall his figure from his memories.
He soon changed the subject.
“Anyway, we should quickly prepare for the new semester. It’s not far off.”
“Yes, that’s right.”
The room assignments were already completed. Luggage was usually taken out in advance in case of late returns.
However, Helmut hadn’t expected to return this late. According to Ethan, although Helmut’s room had changed, Alea was taking care of his belongings.
Alea had ended up using that room.
‘The top student of the magic department gets a single room, huh.’
Being the top student of the swordsmanship department, he would also be assigned a single room. He felt an inexplicable sense of emptiness and immediately checked his room assignment.
“My room is… right next to Alea’s?”
By some coincidence, it had turned out that way. Moving his few belongings would be convenient.
Upon his arrival at the dormitory, his fellow students greeted him.
“Hey, Helmut. You’ve just arrived in Baden?”
“Helmut, it’s been a while.”
“Did you have a good break?”
Among them was someone rather sharp.
“You seem a bit tanned. Did you go to some hot country?”
“It was a country with strong sunlight.”
Helmut responded casually and immediately went to find the key to his room, heading towards Alea’s room.
Alea preferred staying in the dormitory. If she wasn’t heading to the magic department building, she would be in the dormitory.
Climbing the stairs, he felt an inexplicable tension, as if facing a formidable enemy.
Or is it different? Why did he feel this way heading to Alea’s room? Even Helmut couldn’t explain.
Knock knock. As he knocked, rustling sounds came from inside.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me.”
The door opened widely, and Helmut was taken aback, wondering what was happening.
The first thing to appear through the door gap was a pair of violet eyes. Bright and clear, like amethyst, they seemed to drop his heart the moment they entered his sight.
It hadn’t been two months since they parted, but it felt like years had passed.
Alea was still beautiful, but her expression had subtly changed. Despite covering it with magic, Helmut could sense the difference.
Alea’s lips moved.
“Helmut.”
They stood frozen, staring at each other for a moment. An awkward silence flowed with a prickly sensation. A strange feeling.
‘My heart again…’
Maybe the seed of darkness was reacting to Alea’s magic. That was a new hypothesis Helmut had formulated. He was the first to break the silence.
