Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 185 (Part 1): Truth and Confession
As the festival’s relaxed atmosphere faded, Greta Academy swiftly returned to its routine.
Amidst the intense but unseen competition, the midterm exams ended smoothly. For the second years, the practical exam was a dueling match.
As expected, the greatest challenge for Helmut at his level was making a duel last more than a minute. The gap had widened even further than the previous semester.
Compared to the first semester, he had chosen easier electives, so extensive preparation for the exams wasn’t particularly necessary.
Helmut had chosen “The Founding of Greta Academy” as his elective.
It was a simple memorization subject, requiring no special writing skills or critical thinking.
Especially for Helmut, who had an excellent memory, it was an exceedingly easy course.
“This semester, I might aim for perfect scores in all subjects.”
Like before Alea joined, achieving perfect scores in all subjects within the swordsmanship and Magic departments was incredibly difficult.
However, Helmut was confident. His expression radiated self-assurance.
“Looking like someone who did well on the exams?”
Asuka grumbled, sensing he would again be the runner-up. Sian, already accustomed to not topping Alea, appeared indifferent, but Asuka seemed to have had some hopes.
However, his hopes were summarily crushed.
“Did you take some kind of strength potion over the break? Why does it seem like you’ve gotten much stronger? What’s your secret?”
Helmut’s progress was apparent even to Asuka. While Asuka had also improved, compared to Helmut, he was still far behind.
Perhaps the secret was battling fierce demonic beasts under the scorching sun, similar to the training of the Palma Knights’ commander. It was something Helmut couldn’t really explain.
Helmut simply changed the subject.
“Speaking of which, after the midterms, we soon have a field assignment, right?”
“Yeah, it’s similar to what the magic department did last semester, but I hear it’s a bit different this time. They’re posting the details on the notice board at 5 p.m. today.”
This time, the details would be clearly announced in advance, and the instructor would explain separately.
“A field assignment, huh…”
Helmut muttered. That morning, Alea had mentioned having something important to discuss, which he suspected might be related.
His suspicion turned into reality when they checked the notice board.
“A week-long joint field assignment with the magic department? What if you don’t know anyone from the magic department?”
“Look here. It says you can work alone, but for the sake of interdepartmental cooperation, they recommend working together. The team shouldn’t exceed three members.”
“People team up just to goof off.”
“Right? Wait, isn’t this extremely advantageous for someone?”
“Oh, right. Hey, Helmut! You’re close with Alea.”
“If you’re in a group with Alea, you could just goof off and still get good marks.”
“That’s so unfair!”
Asuka exclaimed in frustration, but he soon got scolded by the guys from the swordsmanship department.
“You’ll be pairing up with Sian from the magic department! He’s the runner-up; have some conscience!”
“I never talked about that…”
Asuka muttered. However, he thought he should discuss it with Sian.
Despite being from different departments, they were unusually close. If one of them were a girl, they might as well be considered dating.
“In the end, the teams are made based on rankings. That’s so messed up.”
“Shouldn’t we protest about not allowing the top students to team up?”
Since the cross-dressing contest, Asuka had become somewhat closer to the guys from the swordsmanship department.
Participating in the department’s events had made him feel more connected, even though he was still known for his erratic moods.
“Yup.”
Helmut responded quietly. First, he needed to talk to Alea.
