Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 316 (Part 1): Veneta
The royal palace of Veneta, having recently welcomed a new ruler, was enveloped in silence. A man entered the king’s office, shrouded in stillness.
“I greet His Majesty, the King. I have come as summoned.”
The man, upon entering the office, immediately bowed respectfully towards the front.
He carried a strangely dignified air, yet his expression was stoic, as if observing only the basic courtesies.
But despite this, something was peculiar about the man’s presence. His calm demeanor gave an impression of strength, even though he seemed quite ordinary.
Davis, the young king of Veneta, who had been lost in thought at his desk, greeted him with a smile.
“Talon.”
At the call, the man raised his head. Talon, the leader of Hawk Eye. A high-ranking member of Black Hawk, he represented the organization’s will before the King of Veneta.
“Your efforts have been considerable.”
“If you recognize our considerable efforts, then leave the matter of Greencana to your soldiers.”
A cold voice cut him short. Polite, but not the attitude of a subordinate.
Monitoring a village required significant manpower. Even Black Hawk, cooperating with the King of Veneta, was reluctant to undertake such a notorious task.
Kidnapping a civilian to intimidate a small village!
And the opponent was Rodril, no less.
Rodril had a fairly good reputation in Veneta, known as a spirit mage who brought prosperity. They often assisted nearby villages and had exchanges with Veneta.
Therefore, none of the surrounding villages welcomed the blockade around Rodril.
Even now, they would be harboring resentment. Rodril had done more for them than the royal family of Veneta.
It sounded like a risky undertaking, but that’s the nature of reputation.
In Veneta, Rodril was like a temple. No, their reputation was better than the temple. A sacred representative of the spirits, offering help without demanding anything in return.
‘Clashing with such individuals goes against the principles of Black Hawk.’
Even those in the underworld had rules to follow. They didn’t want to become public enemies.
Furthermore, while following Davis’s orders, they felt a sense of being monitored in return. How much power did they possess? How did they operate?
Davis responded smoothly.
“This sort of task is your specialty, isn’t it? No one is more suited than you to move quietly and avoid the spirit mage’s sight. Besides, I can’t deny that your people are more discreet than my soldiers.”
Davis smiled faintly. The young king, with his scholarly and intellectual appearance, was a difficult man to read.
He had risen to the throne from the weakest position among the princes. Winning as the final victor was not something that could be achieved by luck.
Therefore, Davis’s abilities and resourcefulness were undeniable.
“Black Hawk agreed to cooperate with Your Majesty. We believe we’ve shown enough sincerity.”
In the current situation, if they antagonized the Spirit Mage Rodril, the King of Veneta might shift all the blame onto Black Hawk and wash his hands of the matter.
Black Hawk was already a notorious organization. Even a Spirit Mage wouldn’t hesitate to punish them.
The king had pushed all the risky and dirty work onto Black Hawk. They couldn’t simply accept everything.
‘We need to draw a line at some point.’
“Yet, there are benefits to receive in return. So, you must fulfill your part. I am attempting what no other nation’s king has dared to do.”
Talon’s eyebrows furrowed, a deep crease forming on his forehead.
Yes, that’s why they engaged in dealings with him—because Davis could grant what Black Hawk desired.
‘Currently, he’s the only one who can fulfill our terms.’
That was why they approached him. They were the ones who intended to approach and utilize him.
But Davis wasn’t easily manipulated, and instead, the situation had evolved to the point where he was using Black Hawk as his own personal force.
They had no choice but to comply, in part because Davis had never shown any sign of betraying them. As a business partner, he was trustworthy.
And then there was the ambition.
