Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 334 (Part 1):
“Ah, I almost missed something—Sword Saint Darien’s disciple.”
Helmut’s gaze shifted to Talon, who stood aside.
He had expected Black Hawk to have noticed something about him, so this was merely to gauge how much.
How much had Talon told the king about him?
‘The Temple, The Seed of Darkness, the Forest of Roots.’
Had they gone that far?
Even with close cooperation between the King of Veneta and Black Hawk, it would be difficult to expect complete truth from someone like Talon. The king had not mentioned the Temple.
“Is there anything incorrect in what I said?”
Instead of denying, Helmut answered briefly.
“I merely had business with Rodril.”
In situations where denial or admission could yield valuable information to opponents, silence was the most effective response.
And what mattered wasn’t who he was, but his purpose for being in Veneta. And his purpose? It wasn’t much of a secret.
“Then why did you come all this way following Rodril?”
“In case you tried to assassinate Rodril.”
Helmut countered.
“Black Hawk is here, and they specialize in such matters.”
“I am the King of Veneta. I don’t use such petty methods.”
Anger clouded the king’s face. Elaga, entirely unfazed by the tension, yawned while glancing back and forth between the two.
Why are you just moving your mouths? Fight already! He seemed to expect that.
“And what would you do if I had other intentions?”
Helmut’s eyes turned cold.
“You speak quite boldly for someone too weak to withstand even my first strike.”
Helmut grabbed the king’s collar with murderous intent.
With a chilling glare, Helmut grabbed the king by the collar and hoisted him into the air.
“If you weren’t the King of Veneta, you’d already be dead.”
That fact was precisely why both the king and Talon had summoned Helmut here.
Of course, Helmut had no intention of killing the king. But with only one witness, he could teach him a lesson.
“Meow!”
Elaga meowed as if disappointed that it ended at just that. Talon, who had been watching the conversation, stepped forward with apparent concern.
“That’s enough. As you said, he is the King of Veneta. Didn’t you come here to talk?”
Helmut released his grip. The king, remarkably, maintained his balance. Standing in place, he reached up to rub his neck.
His face, which had briefly turned pale under Helmut’s oppressive killing intent, was recovering its color. He had held up surprisingly well.
For someone who wasn’t a proper swordsman to withstand a Sword Saint-level swordsman’s killing intent and remain standing – perhaps it was the unique spirit of royalty.
[There’s someone even weaker than you. How can a king be so weak?]
Elaga prattled thoughtlessly from the side. Just as the king seemed about to speak again, the door swung open, and a woman burst into the room.
“Your Majesty!”
The king’s expression turned flustered upon seeing her.
“Teresa, your condition…”
His pure-hearted concern for her condition even after having his life threatened was touching, but the person in question showed little interest in the king’s feelings.
Teresa crossed her arms and demanded answers.
“Did you summon him here because of your petty jealousy, Your Majesty? I knew something was off when you started interrogating me about what I discussed with him!”
She spoke as if the king had been persecuting Helmut.
Though it was he who had his collar grabbed, as king, these words felt unjust.
“No, there were suspicious points about him…”
But before the king could finish speaking, Teresa cut him off angrily.
“After all my explanations, you couldn’t trust me and had to cross-check with him? How could you! This is an insult to me as well!”
“Teresa, that’s not what I…”
The king, who hadn’t been particularly nervous even before Helmut, now fumbled as he reached out toward her.
Elaga tilted his head and muttered from the side.
[This human female must be stronger than you. That’s definitely how one acts toward someone stronger.]
‘Perhaps,’ Helmut thought.
After all, he himself couldn’t overpower Alea, so he could somewhat empathize with the king’s plight. Strangely, this realization made him feel more sympathetic toward the king.
The argument between Teresa and the king eventually escalated to the breaking point. Teresa pulled away from him dramatically and declared:
“I need to reconsider our engagement!”
“Teresa!”
The king was shocked, but Helmut was also somewhat surprised. She was the king’s fiancée? Or was this recently decided?
More than that, Helmut couldn’t understand why he was stuck watching the Veneta king quarrel with his fiancée. It made no sense.
Anyway, tears welled up in Teresa’s eyes.
