Finally, the swamp area came to an end.

But the moment they escaped the swamp, the anticipated situation struck without fail.

Countless demonic beasts with gleaming eyes. These were the very creatures that had originally swarmed Elaga’s domain.

This place was closer to the central region.

Even the scent of Rosetta couldn’t free them from the Demon King’s dominion.

The demonic beasts charging as if they’d been waiting resembled a pack of wolves.

They targeted their prey and relentlessly hunted in groups, bringing it down.

No matter how massive the prey, if overwhelmed by numbers, it would eventually tire and collapse.

In the midst of it all, they paid no heed even if the one beside them had its head crushed or was torn to pieces.

Igrelle, who had pummeled the demonic beasts until both fists were worn raw, shouted in exasperation.

“Elaga, they’re your subordinates! Do something about it!”

No matter how much of a domain ruler he was, he had never faced this many demonic beasts. Even killing them was starting to feel exhausting.

Kuaaaaang!

Elaga let out a roar. The shockwave spread, pushing the atmosphere aside with a whoosh.

For the past thousand years, Elaga had ruled this central region. The instinct ingrained in his body shattered the Demon King’s control.

A few of them flinched. Only then did those few snap out of it, trembling at the sight of Elaga before fleeing.

But such ones were only a minority. Those with particularly strong demonic energy.

Most charged forward without so much as blinking, eyes filled with madness.

Elaga was dumbfounded.

[No matter how long I was away, it feels like this was the Demon King’s territory from the very beginning, doesn’t it?]

Elaga was fully experiencing what it felt like to be robbed in broad daylight.

The central region he had ruled for a thousand years had lost its original form, unfamiliar even to Elaga’s eyes.

Not only had it nested in his domain, but it had taken all the demonic beasts under his control.

He had never particularly thought of them as subordinates, but the feeling of having his own taken away was intense. It was unpleasant.

“Show them who’s boss.”

Helmut replied nonchalantly.

Even for Helmut, who had spent most of his life in this central region, the situation was equally unfamiliar.

Not just Elaga, but the domain rulers were facing the unprecedented situation of being ignored by the demonic beasts they had commanded.

But naturally, this only fueled their fighting spirit.

[These bastards dare ignore me? I won’t let them off easy!]

Kuaaaaang!

Elaga charged ahead, rampaging like a true madman.

Thud! Kwaaaang!

With every swing, a demonic beast was crushed alive, its core shattered to dust.

He would make it crystal clear who the master of this region was.

With force!

This was the first time Elaga, having swallowed even Naho’s core, revealed the full extent of his original power.

“…Stay back a bit.”

The sheer terrifying majesty made it daunting to approach too closely, lest one get caught in the crossfire.

Baharek, pulling the carriage, was at least holding back, but the ones charging at him were crunched and torn apart, heads and all.

Crunch!

Igrelle, riding at the back of the carriage, hurled and pummeled the ones charging from behind.

The dark, murky atmosphere and black earth.

In it, the pitch-black blood of the tainted demonic beasts wasn’t particularly noticeable.

The swordsmen drew their swords and sliced through the charging demonic beasts one by one from atop the carriage.

The golem was sturdy, and the carriage, though not as fast as before, was advancing at a considerable speed.

[Hurry and follow! If you dawdle, more will swarm!]

With Elaga clearing the path ahead, progress was relatively smooth.

Since Sian hardened the ground as they went, there were no attacks from below.

As long as the carriage didn’t flip over, there would be no issues with proceeding.

“Asuka, to the side!”

“Uraaaah!”

At Sian’s warning, Asuka cleaved a hyena baring its fangs up to his flank with his sword.

Kwaduk!

The hyena, its forehead core shattered, drooled as it collapsed to the ground.

The carriage quickly distanced itself from the corpse.

“Ack, seriously.”

Asuka broke into a cold sweat. He was the least skilled among them, but the power of his magic sword was tremendous.

The magic sword he wielded had the ability to freeze wounds. Because of that, even demonic beasts struggled to regenerate.

Luke Yeager shouted, looking up at the sky.

“Above! Watch out!”

A massive hedgehog covered in thorns was spinning furiously in midair, plummeting toward the carriage.

Each thorn was as threatening as a spear blade, and with that weight, it could crush a building.

It would more than suffice to turn those inside the carriage into a pulp of blood and flesh.

“If it lands, the carriage will be smashed! We have to change course!”

At that moment, Helmut kicked off the carriage and leaped upward. Alea’s magic supported his body.

“Tempest Wings!”

Speed surged. Helmut thrust forward his Vis-infused blade. Soaring vertically, he split it in two.

Before him was a furiously spinning forest of massive spear blades. A terrifying presence that could easily grind a human to dust!

Yet without hesitation, he countered with his Vis-laden sword.

Kwadududuk!

If sliced quickly, the pressure could be ignored. The spear-like thorns were cut like grass stalks.

Piercing through the demonic beast’s body, Helmut unerringly found and severed the core.

There was no intense clash. The spinning beast and Helmut crossed paths, flying into the air.

But the change was instantaneous. The hedgehog’s body, marked with a long line, split with a crack.

Spraying an enormous amount of black blood in midair, the halved body fell apart to either side.

The two halves, flung by the spinning force, plummeted to different spots.

Kwaaaang!

Those on the carriage couldn’t look back at the noise.

The rain of blood falling below bypassed the magically protected carriage.

Helmut turned in midair and landed safely back on the carriage. Alea’s magic supported him.

“Good work.”

Alea, speaking briefly, prepared another spell without a moment to breathe.

Helmut, too, held his sword at the ready.
