Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 475 (Part 2):
The path to the center of the central region was long and treacherous.
The endless battles that unfolded after reaching the central region relatively smoothly.
No matter how much recovery magic was poured, it couldn’t restore the expended strength.
Everyone was a little exhausted. The consolation was that there were no casualties.
Fortunately, after passing the second barrier, the number of demonic beasts decreased significantly.
As if entering another world, the ones that occasionally lunged at them had appearances stranger than any seen before.
“Like they were crushed and reassembled.”
Even Helmut, who had lived in the Forest of Roots, said so; they were that unfamiliar.
Demonic beasts were beings that animals and plants transformed into through demonic energy.
Even with bizarre appearances, they retained traces of their original form.
Like a rabbit with long, sharp fangs like a leopard was still a rabbit.
But the newly appeared ones were different.
A gigantic one-eyed monster with no discernible original form, or a circular monster with countless eyes on a squashed body.
But as if even they weren’t used to their own bodies, they staggered or attacked strange places while charging.
When Elaga unpleasantly swatted away the ones blocking the path, they were flung away without much resistance and rolled on the ground.
[Fast and sturdy, but somehow uncoordinated.]
“Feels like a chimera that failed in a magic experiment.”
Alea, who had roughly recovered her mana, muttered.
One thing was certain. They were getting closer to the Demon Realm.
Whether they were creatures from the Demon Realm or existing demonic beasts altered by the Demon Realm’s influence was unknown.
“They might be ones that came from the entrance to the Demon Realm.”
Perhaps they changed like that as the price for forcing their way into this world.
Sian hypothesized. Then Alea countered.
“If the Demon Realm had opened enough for matter to pass through, the sacred barrier would already be broken. Even a thousand years ago, no creatures came from the Demon Realm.”
“It means crossing the boundary between worlds is possible only as formless power and will.”
Heike said with serious eyes.
As expected of mages, the moment a new research topic appeared, they immediately began discussing.
Elaga tossed in a remark.
[More importantly, stay tense. It’s not far now. At this speed, we’ll arrive in three hours.]
Due to the party’s fierce objections, Elaga wasn’t leaping around like before but was running on all fours.
Even so, it was quite fast. Similar to the speed Baharek had maintained while pulling the carriage earlier.
“Fortunately, we can recover our strength and face what’s next.”
Asuka plopped down on the carriage floor with a thud.
There wasn’t a single part of his body that didn’t ache.
High Priest Levina extended her hand and cast a blessing on him.
Sacred magic was more affinity to humans than any other magic. His body felt refreshed in no time.
Levina spoke softly to Asuka.
“It couldn’t have been easy for a royal to volunteer for such hardship. Impressive.”
“Ah, well… High Priest, you too.”
The enemy of my enemy is my friend—so was the High Priest a friend now? It didn’t quite feel that way.
Asuka replied with an awkward expression.
“It’s a bit easy here? Seems they only stationed proper guards thickly on the outside.”
Swoosh!
Luke Yeager muttered as he sliced a giant caterpillar that had wriggled up and poked its head over the passing carriage.
Due to the decreased frequency of demonic beast appearances, they had decided to stand watch in pairs and take turns resting.
“This could be a boundary too.”
Helmut, who was on watch with him, answered.
Even between the first and second barriers, they had experienced a brief lull.
Then, near the destination, they would encounter another barrier. This barrier would not be easier than the previous ones.
Of course, defeating the Demon King was inherently difficult.
Riding a carriage in the Forest of Roots alone was already a luxury.
And time flew by like an arrow.
