Terrestrial Savior Archetype - T.S.A Chapter 16 (part 1): The March of Cats (4)
The Cats’ March.
If this were a dream or even a scene from a movie, one might have thought, “This is like a fairytale situation.”
However, the sweltering weather and increasingly rapid breaths reminded Jeong-woo at every moment that this was all reality.
‘How far are they going?’
Jeong-woo wiped the sweat from his damp cheek with his hand and looked at the cats running about 10 meters ahead.
Each of them had a number of essences between one and three.
So, at first, he tried to attack them to take away the essences.
But the cats didn’t even turn their heads, though they sensed Jeong-woo and Sun-woong approaching.
Instead, they said this.
*Follow. Go up. High.
As they were running without rest, Jeong-woo had no way of knowing which cat spoke.
He couldn’t tell whether they were talking among themselves or addressing him and Sun-woong.
But…
‘There’s something going on. These creatures knew before the humans.’
Jeong-woo had a premonition that something unusual had happened, and from that moment on, they started chasing the cats.
After running for about five minutes, they finally reached ‘Annerbil,’ the only apartment complex in the neighborhood.
This also meant they had reached the highest point in Hyeonseol-dong.
And the moment the herd of cats they were chasing stopped.
‘Wow…’
Both Jeong-woo and Sun-woong froze in place.
The cats they had seen until now were just a fraction of the iceberg.
There were already about a thousand cats crowding the entrance to Annerbil, making it pitch-black.
‘What, what is this? Are they preparing for a siege?’
When Jeong-woo shifted his gaze towards the apartment, he saw residents peering out from the corridors on each floor.
The distance was considerable, so he couldn’t see their expressions, but he could tell they were scared.
‘But why gather here in a residential area…?’
He suddenly became suspicious.
If they had gathered to attack humans, then it didn’t make sense that they were still leaving this place unharmed.
While he was wondering, the cats, who had been silently waiting until now, suddenly started crying out together.
Gyaahh!
Haaak!
However, these were not cries used for communication.
They were expressions of emotions—anger, fear, and more.
It was quite rare for these cries to contain such clear meanings that a human like Jeong-woo could understand them.
But the message came across loud and clear.
*Block them!
*They’re coming!
‘Block them? What do they mean by blocking…?’
As he furrowed his brows, trying to concentrate on the cries, Sun-woong beside him pointed at something.
“Jeong-woo, look at that. All the cats are staring in the same direction.”
As Sun-woong said, every cat gathered here was fixated on a single point.
And what they were looking at was not Annerbil but the playground in front of the apartment complex.
To be precise, it was something ‘transparent’ looming over the playground.
It looked like the very ripple one might see on the water’s surface.
A part of the air seemed to be wavering as a whole.
Jeong-woo quickly reached a conclusion.
“…That’s the entryway.”
As soon as he said that, the evaluator confirmed it.
- It seems it’s about to activate. You need to leave this area.-
The same message they received when they fled from the company’s parking lot.
Jeong-woo’s expression tensed up.
“I’m supposed to be the savior, right? And they said if I ranked within the top five, I could close the entryway. But now they’re telling me to run away again? Until when? What kind of a savior am I supposed to be?”
Even the cats that had rushed over, sensing the signs of the entryway opening, were here now.
These creatures were doing a better job than humans.
Countless cats, risking their lives, were waiting at the entrance.
Giyaaah!
The cries of the cats grew even louder.
When Jeong-woo looked back at the entrance, he could sense the ripple becoming even stronger than before.
Its size had also increased significantly.
Initially, the black area was about the size of a human fist, but now it was expanding at an alarming rate.
