Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 82 (Part 1):
By the time afternoon arrived, all investigations had come to a conclusion.
The investigators from the Greta Academy persistently probed the subjects of their investigation about their activities that day and their thoughts regarding Asuka.
They can’t treat innocent students as suspects just because of suspicion.
However, there was no denying that they had a history of getting involved in trouble with Helmut, making them prime suspects. The so-called leading suspects.
‘Damn it, how can those Black Hawk guys eat up our money and not even handle the job properly!’
Sabbat grumbled inwardly. He had thought of Black Hawk as an effective means to retaliate against Asuka
They were nobles, and there was no need for them to personally confront Asuka. Sabbat knew a better way!
He had spent a considerable amount of money, paying half of the commission upfront, and it was not worth it.
Sabbat eagerly awaited the end of the holiday, hoping that the commoner they had recruited would prove useful.
‘Those Black Hawk guys are supposed to be perfect for a job like this.’
Just a month or two ago, as a transfer student, he had lived in a place where commoners and nobles were clearly divided.
Asuka, who dared to insult nobles, was an intolerable presence. Killing him wouldn’t even satisfy Sabbat.
The atmosphere at the Greta Academy felt strangely ominous to him.
‘Why bother investigating for those commoners who aren’t worth all this attention.’
It was unthinkable that nobles would be subjected to an investigation just because some commoner had accused them. It was absurd.
Sabbat knew something was wrong but managed to keep his anxiety in check as he was summoned.
There was no evidence left. He had commissioned Black Hawk through his family’s contacts in Baden using a letter written in the Guild’s unique code. His family had secretly made contact with Black Hawk.
Sabbat didn’t even have to say anything, and his noble friends will keep their mouths shut.
He knew that the Academy had no means to extract the truth from them, considering how sparingly the Eye of Truth was used.
‘It seems the Black Hawk guys have managed to slip away too.’
In the end, the Academy couldn’t find out anything.
Sabbat confirmed this when he reunited with his gang.
They all seemed irritated after being questioned throughout the morning.
Half of the commission fee had flown away, but the commoner would have learned his lesson by now. You couldn’t be so insolent with nobles.
Sabbat’s gaze fell on Asuka as he returned to the facility.
As Helmut practiced swordplay, Asuka, who had nothing else to do, was holding a wooden sword and assuming a stance, ready to practice. It was an unusual sight.
Erun was the first to speak up.
“Hey, commoner. You said you were attacked. What’s that all about?”
They noticed the cracked lips and shallow breathing on his well-groomed face, and it pleased them.
Even if his wounds had been treated, getting stabbed must have been painful.
Asuka looked at Erun with an expressionless face. It was an unresponsive expression.
Other guys chimed in.
“Judging by his temperament, he probably ran into a blade while causing trouble.”
“Even if we don’t know who it was, it’s good if he’s learned his lesson. Because of you, we wasted half a day.”
“Live more peacefully from now on. If not, you might actually end up dead next time.”
Sabbat’s gang passed by Asuka with laughter.
No, they tried to pass by.
But in the next moment, thwack! Erun, who had spoken first, had his head violently jerked to the side without mercy. It was a lightning-fast strike.
Thud! He immediately lost his balance and slammed onto the ground. Due to the shock, he couldn’t regain his composure for a moment.
“Argh!”
Blood spurted from his nose as he groaned.
Sabbat’s gang surrounded Asuka with their wooden swords. The atmosphere quickly turned hostile.
“What’s this kid doing?”
“Has he gone mad?”
Asuka raised his hand with a cheerful expression. Laughter bubbled up.
“Oh, sorry! His face just looked so stupid that my hand moved on its own.”
Reason had deserted him, and his fist had flown. It was inevitable.
Wasn’t the guy who provoked him at fault? Asuka thought confidently.
He sneered at Erun, who was trembling, clutching his nose and trying to get up.
“With a face that looks like an idiot, you’re bound to get slapped by a commoner passing by, right? It’s your fault.”
“This worm-like commoner brat!”
“Words won’t cut it!”
“Huh? You were planning to use words? I didn’t know.”
A bright laugh crossed his lips. Asuka raised his wooden sword. It seemed this was more to his liking.
“Stop right there!”
At that moment, a shout rang out from the other side.
Patricia, the instructor who had suddenly appeared, was approaching them.
“Guys, what are you doing there?”
“This commoner guy here.”
“Quiet! You call him a commoner? I’ll have to see me privately after a while. Let someone else explain.”
Sabbat clenched his mouth in dissatisfaction, and another guy spoke up.
“Asuka hit Erun.”
Erun coughed, stealing a glance at his bleeding nose. It was an attitude that showed he was the victim.
He had been eager for a fight, but the appearance of the instructor had spoiled the fun.
Asuka spoke bluntly.
“Yes, I punched that fox-like bastard.”
“Explain why you attacked a fellow student, leaving out the insults, so I can understand.”
“I just felt like beating him up.”
Without much thought, Patricia the instructor immediately delivered retribution. Smack!
“Ouch! Instructor.”
“Oh dear, my bad. I guess I wanted to hit that thick skull without even realizing it.”
