Terrestrial Savior Archetype - T.S.A Chapter 14 (part 2): Stroke of Luck (2)
From some point on, Jeong-woo couldn’t even know his father’s occupation, and Park Min-gu also drastically reduced his visits home.
The only thing Jeong-woo could discern about his father as days went by was that his eyes and movements got rougher.
He started hiding weapons around the house, as if being chased by someone.
Today, after thousands of days have passed since then, I sent an unexpected declaration that he want to live longer.
And coincidentally, it’s a Monday.
It was the day when Jeong-woo and Min-gu crossed paths once a week.
Coincidental indeed.
Jeong-woo walked to the kitchen, the place his father had always pointed him to first.
“……”
The kitchen was filled with all sorts of canned goods and dried food.
It seemed like he had brought back a huge amount, enough to make you think he went with a shopping cart.
‘Did he go and raid the supermarket after the incident?’ Jeong-woo wondered.
His gaze swept through the stacked cans, and he stopped at one point.
Some of the canned goods were discolored.
They were also damp.
Evidence of wiping off blood.
Jeong-woo immediately turned back to look at his father.
Then he checked the number of bullets he had left.
“…Seventy-three.”
Rattle.
As he picked up some of the discolored cans, Min-gu turned his head slightly towards the kitchen.
Jeong-woo sensed his father’s gaze but didn’t show any reaction.
Instead, he embraced a bunch of canned goods and dried meat, and with a natural tone, he threw a question.
“What will you do once we leave? Stay here alone and munch on dried meat?”
It may have sounded casual, but it was actually a dialogue expressing concern for his father’s well-being.
In response, Min-gu shrugged his shoulders.
“The world is doomed. This is just the beginning. Pack up and leave. Let’s go our separate ways. You’ve been through a lot.”
Jeong-woo’s jaw twitched at the emotionless tone.
His next words inevitably startled Min-gu.
“I am… the savior. I know how to resolve this situation.”
“…!”
Expanding pupils of surprise in Sun-woong’s eyes.
On the other hand, Min-gu’s face showed no hint of trembling.
“I don’t need a savior. I actually think it’s better this way because the world has gone to hell. If you want to save someone, go out and save them to your heart’s content. I hope you leave by tomorrow morning.”
With that, he pointed his finger toward the bathroom.
There, a military backpack, often seen on online shopping malls, lay.
“Pack your stuff in there. I’ll be leaving by tomorrow too.”
“……”
But Jeong-woo didn’t see the backpack.
Given that Min-gu had gone to the mart right after the incident and killed people to take supplies, he must have packed his share of necessities as well.
‘Could it be…’
Suddenly, memories of his mother’s death resurfaced.
If his father also disappears, it would be a similar feeling.
“Where’s your bag, Father?”
As Jeong-woo crossed the living room and grabbed the military backpack, Min-gu nodded toward the bedroom.
“Inside.”
Of course, the bedroom door was closed, and Jeong-woo didn’t open it.
“Oh, I see.”
His tone sounded oddly off.
As Jeong-woo signaled to pack his belongings first, Sun-woong hesitated but eventually moved.
Clang, thud.
To make the bag lighter, he primarily gathered dried food, but he deliberately picked up some cans as well.
Although not as nutritious as fresh fruit, he had read in a book that processed fruits could still contain some nutrients, which was why he chose them.
Next, he picked up bottled water, matches, and a lighter for basic survival, then began to search for weapons.
Swoosh.
As Jeong-woo pulled a sharp sickle and a small knife from between the shoe cabinet and the wall, Sun-woong flinched.
From behind a long mat leaning against the wall, a metal baseball bat and a truncheon emerged.
There were also items whose purpose he couldn’t fathom, like a shovel and a rope, but after a moment of contemplation, he only took the rope.
“The shovel is too heavy.”
“Oh, yes… that’s true.”
Sun-woong nodded and looked around as if in a novel item shop.
It felt entirely unreal… that such a life, this room, actually existed.
“You said there were neighborhood patrols here, and people were walking around as if it was a self-defense corps. What happened?”
As Jeong-woo stuffed the long awl and the small knife into his backpack, he asked while Min-gu, who had finished eating, stood up with an empty bowl in his hand.
“It seems to be a militia formed by the neighborhood police chief. There was a riot where people were killing each other in the neighboring area. Thanks to the police taking quick action and setting a direction, it was controlled here.”
“The police…?”
“Yeah. That’s why murder is not tolerated here. They’ve already started the extermination process.”
The extermination process.
Though Min-gu didn’t elaborate, Jeong-woo could vaguely sense what it meant.
The target they were searching for was none other than his father.
The abnormal amount of bullets Min-gu possessed.
The bloodstains left on the canned goods.
It was clear that his father was in a state of mass murder somewhere.
Of course, with such incidents occurring on a nationwide scale, there would be no proper investigation.
But as his father had said, there were enthusiastic militia groups and a considerable number of them in this neighborhood.
It was clear that they would try to find the murderer in any way possible.
