- H.P.S.T Chapter 1708: The Devoured Dark Witch
An astonishing beam of magic shot from the castle towards the Veil of Death.
Amidst the Dark Witch’s piercing screams, Harry squinted, blinded by the light.
It was a beam of magic, a mixture of blue and orange, carrying unprecedented positive magical energy. It swept away the evil gods’ apparitions, the Dark magic saturating the area around the Veil of Death, and the wandering souls alike.
All the chaotic illusions and Dark magic were driven off. Between heaven and earth, only that single beam of light remained.
Countless currents of magic converged towards it, and Harry felt warmth spreading through the air around him, the temperature steadily rising.
Surrounded by the beam, he felt as though he were soaking in a hot spring — extraordinarily comfortable. And within the beam itself, at the point where the blue and orange radiance burned the brightest, he seemed to glimpse a human figure flying towards them at tremendous speed.
It looked like … Evan!
Harry wasn’t entirely sure, but all the magical energy was converging around that figure.
“Evan…” Harry murmured.
He immediately realized that the Dark Witch’s spell on him had failed!
He regained his freedom and, without hesitation, lunged at the hooded Dark wizard beneath the opposite pillar.
Harry tackled him, knocking his wand away.
The Dark wizard immediately retaliated fiercely, and the two wrestled and grappled. The wizard punched Harry hard in the head, and Harry, enduring the pain, yanked off the Dark wizard’s hood, revealing his face.
Red hair, blue eyes, and freckles — it was…Ron!
“Ron!” Harry cried out, his eyes wide.
Beneath him, Ron showed no reaction at all.
His expression was cold and empty, as if he were once again under the Imperius Curse, yet his strength was terrifying, attacking Harry relentlessly.
After taking several punches, Harry was nearly unable to restrain him, not to mention he wasn’t as strong as Ron to begin with.
“Wake up, Ron! It’s me — Harry! Harry Potter!” Harry roared, desperately trying to snap him out of it.
This wasn’t the first time Ron had fallen under the Imperius Curse. Ever since the Chamber of Secrets incident in Harry’s second year, Ron seemed to be hit by it almost once every year. The cracks in his mind were simply too great — he had almost no resistance to the curse at all.
Previously, Harry had always managed to wake Ron at the most critical moments. He knew what to do. But this time, the magic controlling Ron seemed exceptionally powerful, gripping him tightly.
No matter how much Harry called out, there was no response, and Ron’s attacks were relentless.
After taking another punch to the chest, Harry had no choice but to fight back, grappling with Ron in earnest.
The two rolled on the ground, while on the other side, the Dark Witch paid no attention at all to Harry, who had already broken free of her control.
At this moment, she was being scorched by the blue-and-orange interwoven magical flames. Her body trembled violently as she let out unending, agonized shrieks, clearly suffering terrible damage.
She, too, saw the figure within the beam of magic and the countless streams of power converging upon it.
She didn’t know who it was!
But there was no doubt — this was magic from a thousand years ago.
‘A wizard from a thousand years ago — this must be the reason the Ravenclaw family failed to open the Veil of Death.’
The thought flashed through the Dark Witch’s mind. As the figure within the beam of magic drew closer, the magical force grew stronger, and the flames engulfing her burned ever more fiercely. The searing pain had robbed her of the ability to think.
She could not understand why a magical projection from a thousand years ago could possess such terrifying power. Had reality and magic merged too deeply? She could not even tell whether the spell she had obtained from her master had failed — or was still continuing.
After the beam of magic struck, her own magic spiraled completely out of control!
“Great Master, grant me greater power!” the Dark Witch shrieked, brandishing her wand, trying to regain control.
But she received no response. Her master, the Devouring God, and the statue of the evil god had vanished without a trace.
The Dark Witch immediately realized that not only could she no longer contact her master, but her magic was also rapidly dissipating amidst the blazing light and searing pain. Even her body was beginning to melt within the magical flames. If this continued, she feared she would be burned alive.
She screamed in terror; this was something she had never experienced before.
The Dark Witch’s magic had lost its effect. The ghosts of the Ravenclaw family of the past had all disappeared, but the Veil of Death and the illusory beam of magic from a thousand years ago had not vanished. Instead, they had become even more real, with countless streams of magic converging upon them.
“No!” she roared. “No one can stop us, Great Lord… kill them, kill them all!”
BOOM!
The next second, the beam of magic — centered on Evan — shot straight through the Dark Witch.
The beam pierced her body and plunged deep into the Veil of Death.
The illusory Veil of Death trembled violently, as if it were about to be ripped apart by the sudden influx of magic.
Before the Veil, the Dark Witch’s trembling, contorted body suddenly froze, locked in a bizarre posture.
It was as though she had been struck by the Petrification Curse — or stared into the eyes of a Basilisk.
“Great Lord… Last Judgment… Purify… Devour everything!”
Her faint voice broke apart into fragments, accompanied by soft crack, crack sounds.
Like a weathered stone statue crumbling away, the Dark Witch’s body rapidly shattered. Chunks of flesh peeled off one after another. From the wounds flowed not blood, but blue flames.
The flames quickly coalesced, completely engulfing the Dark Witch’s body.
The Dark Witch was finished!
She was now a burning torch, but Harry, too, couldn’t control Ron beneath him.
In the struggle, Ron kicked Harry in the stomach.
Harry, in pain, released his grip, and Ron rolled to grab his wand, which he pointed at Harry.
“Ron, put down your wand. You can break free from his control. You can do it. We practiced this before, remember? Don’t listen to that voice in your head. Wake up!” Harry shouted between gasps, nearly screaming.
At that moment, the powerful beam of magic from before had completely disappeared.
Beside them, the illusory Veil of Death trembled violently, cracks beginning to appear on the stone door, seemingly on the verge of disappearing. The Dark Witch before it burned silently, blue flames engulfing her.
Harry spoke softly to Ron, and he could see the hesitation and inner struggle on his face.
“You can do it, Ron, beat him!” Harry said hoarsely, his voice gradually lowering.
When he saw that Ron did not move, Harry thought his words were having an effect. He cautiously moved closer to him.
“Good, Ron, it’s all over. Let’s go back now…”
The next second, a red flash of light burst forth, and a black Death Eater mark flared into existence on Ron’s neck.
